Crimson Red Peonies 2024

Crimson Red Peonies 2024

A month before Alan had that fateful heart attack on the floor at Logan Airport two years ago, he sent me crimson red peony roots. None opened last year. However, two opened today, just moments ago. Here come my beloved peonies, but Alan’s first. When I smelled them, he could, from wherever he is, smell them also. He would have loved to have smelled them. He delighted in life so much. The day we met in 1973 we became best friends. The peonies remind me of our in depth conversations over decades. Alan knew me well. He’d ask, “How is the painting coming?” Me: “I don’t know what I’m doing.” Alan: “You sound like a broken record.” next call, “How is the painting going?” Me, “I’m getting it! It’s so exciting now.” Alan: “You sound like a broken record.”
